We've found a few gems that will have you and the family adventuring on beaches, lakes, rivers, national parks or water parks, there's a little something for everyone... even the glampers!

1. BIG4 Wye River Holiday Park, Wye River

Splash into the heated swimming pool, zip around the children’s playground and channel your inner golfing champ at the on-site mini-golf course. Your four-legged friend can also join in on the fun with dog-friendly cabins and sites available.

6. Yarrawonga Holiday Park, Yarrawonga
Yarrawonga Holiday Park is a water-lover’s dream owing not only to it’s riverside location and proximity to Yarrawonga Weir, but also to the on-site splash park and playground with four water slides, tipping bucket and 28 water play activities. Camp riverside or bring along the whole family in superior three-bedroom villas that sleep nine.

7. Ninety Mile Beach, Gippsland Lakes Coastal Park
Here, outdoors lovers can set up camp on the edge of the beach, while remaining sheltered among the coastal scrub. Toilets are long drop, there is no drinking water or cooking facilities, but there are hot showers. With 55 camping sites, fees are only $11.70 per night. The spot is a 40-minute drive from the local town of Sale. Dogs are permitted, so take advantage of this pet-friendly locale.

8. Johanna Beach, Great Otway National Park
Nestled behind the dunes at remote Johanna Beach sits this generous campground on an open grassy area. Dogs on leads are permitted. There are non-flush toilets, no drinking water and fuel stoves and gas barbecues must be used for cooking. Book one of the 25 sites for $34 per night. Johanna is located a 90-minute drive south from Lorne.

9. Rye Foreshore, Mornington Peninsula
Enjoy the pristine beaches and turquoise waters at Rye Foreshore Reserve, home to 174 sites, both powered and unpowered, with tents and caravan access. Facilities include showers and toilets, kids’ playgrounds and barbecues. Foreshore camping is only permitted from the last weekend of October until April. Bookings for campsites are taken. Rye is a one-hour drive from Melbourne.

10. Tidal River, Wilsons Promontory National Park
Mention camping to a Victorian and Wilsons Promontory National Park will come up. Picture granite mountains, thick rainforest and rugged beaches. Pitch a tent at Tidal River, where there are a whopping 484 sites.

11. Halls Gap Lakeside Tourist Park, Halls Gap
Getting back to nature at the foot of the Grampians has never looked so good. Halls Gap Lakeside Tourist Park offers glamping, camping and cabin stays all spaciously set among nature – here it isn’t out of the ordinary to see the occasional kangaroo or emu passing by your tent. After a day of hiking, relax in the heated pool or grab some marshmallows and set up next to one of the park’s campfires. As an added bonus there are eight Springfree trampolines for the kids to enjoy as well!
